Universita degli Studi di TorinoThe Universita degli Studi di Torino (UT) was founded over 600 years ago by Pope Benedict XIII, and remains one of Italy’s most ancient and prestigious universities. With over 70,000 students and faculty, and over 120 buildings, UT can truly claim to be a kind of city-within-a-city, promoting culture and generating research, training, and employment. UT has over 12 faculties, and UM exchange students study under the Faculty of Business and Economics.
The language of instruction at UT is mainly Italian, however a number of courses are offered in English. For the courses taught in Italian, students can ask their professors for English textbooks and can take their final exams in English. UT offers English taught courses in Economics, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, and Law. For a list of English taught courses, visit: http://www.econ.unito.it/didattica/info/dida001. UT also offers free Italian lessons for students.
Housing & Meals
Students stay in off-campus apartments while studying at UT. “Sportello casa” (SEAS) at www.sportellocasatorino.it, provides free services to all foreign students to search for and book accommodation prior to arrival in Torino. Meals may be purchased at restaurants and cafes, or students may cook for themselves in their apartments.
Exchange students pay their regular tuition to UM and their room and board to UT. Student visas for study in Italy are free at this time. Apartment costs range from 350 to 500 EUR per month. UM financial aid can be applied to tuition, living and travel expenses while on this program.
Students will register for classes upon arrival at UT. Minimum full-time load is 24 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) per semester, which transfers to 12 UM credits.

Semester 2: late February to early June
Torino, surrounded by the Italian Alps, is a beautiful city in the Piedmont region of Italy. The area is well-known for its ancient Catholic monasteries, quaint villages, and world-renown vineyards, all excellent glimpses into the traditional culture of Italy. More recently, Torino is known as the host of the 2006 Winter Olympics, a testament to the breadth of its outdoor recreation opportunities.
Torino’s rich history as the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy, is evident in its ancient architecture and elegant squares. The city, Italy’s fourth largest, more recently has become a hub of contemporary arts and festivals including the Torino Film Festival and the famous Cinema Museum. Torino also attracts food connoisseurs from around the world, as it has chosen to house the first- of- its- kind Slow Food marketplace in an old Fiat car factory. The market adds a local twist to the country’s cultural obsession with food, and provides for incredible eating.
Sitting in Italy’s northwest corner, Torino is in prime exploring position for trips to France, the Riveira, Florence, Milan, and Rome.
