Universite Catholique de l’Ouest
The Universite Catholique de l’Ouest (UCO) is situated in the Loire Valley of Western France, just 90 minutes away from Paris by train. UCO has 12,840 students, including 1,500 international students & teachers. The campus is located in the city-center, just five minutes from shopping centers, restaurants, & the world-famous gardens of Angers. UCO, with its first founding over 130 years ago in 1373, is known for its immaculate blend of old & new architectural styles on its Angers campus.
The language of instruction at UCO is French. Students with French proficiency may take classes in Literature, Language, teaching French as a foreign language, Music, Fine Arts, History, Sociology, Psychology, Communication, Education, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology, Environmental Studies, Theology, and Religion. Students may take French culture, society, & language courses with the International Center of French Studies (CIDEF), which also offers fieldtrips & immersions.
Housing & Meals
Students may stay in university halls of residence or with a French homestay family. Two university restaurants are on campus, as well as other snack options.
Students pay their regular tuition to UM and their room & board in Angers. Monthly rent is approximately 300 EUR & meals cost around 15 EUR per day at students’ restaurants. Montana residents must apply for their visa in person at the Consulate in San Francisco (costs US$120). UM financial aid can be applied to tuition, living & travel expenses on this program.
Students will register for classes upon arrival at UCO. The minimum course load for students is 24 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) per semester, which transfers to 12 UM credits.

Angers is located in the beautiful Loire Valley in northwestern France, & is the capital of the famous Anjou wine producing region. The city is laden with historical sites, including a 13th century castle & many museums. Angers hosts several film festivals each year, & has lively theater & concert scenes.
Angers is famous for its many gardens & parks, making it a picnicking paradise.
The greater Loire Valley, with its rolling green hillsides has long been home to wealthy French families, & today provides an excellent area to explore by car or bicycle. The entire area has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site for its immaculately kept vegetable & flower gardens and picturesque old chateaus, castles, as well as for the quaint & more quietly beautiful farmhouses. Angers is located just 90 minutes by high speed train (TGV) from Paris so urban-oriented students can make the short journey to the romantic capital city for shopping, outstanding cuisine, or to explore any number of world-class art museums like the Musée d’Orsay and the Louvre.
