Universidad Adolfo Ibanez

The Universidad Adolfo Ibanez (UAI) is a private university founded in 1953, and is known for its focus on entrepreneurship and business.  In fact, UAI has been ranked the number one business school in Chile. Students may choose to study at either the Peñalolén campus, located between Santiago and the Andes, sprawling over nearly 250 acres in the foothills of San Ramón Hill, or the Recreo Campus, nestled in a venerable residential neighborhood in Viña del Mar on the Pacific Ocean, just 10 km from Valparaiso.

The language of instruction at UAI is Spanish.  Faculties at UAI, include Business, Psychology, Journalism, Liberal Arts, Engineering, Law and Government.  Course details can be found at:

Housing & Meals
There are no student dorms at UAI, but the University will help students find accommodation in either Santiago or Viña del Mar. Options include living in private or shared apartments, in hostels, or with a Chilean family.

Cost Information
Students pay their regular tuition to UM and their room and board in Chile.  The average cost of housing is CLP1,200,000/semester.  Depending on living situations, this cost varies.  Students living with families may have all their meals included, otherwise, food would cost about CLP500,000/semseter.  A student visa for study in Chile costs US$100.  UM financial aid can be applied to tuition, living and travel expenses.
Credit Transfer
Students register for classes upon arrival at UAI.  The minimum full-time course load  is four classes per semester; each course meets for 45 hours per semester.  This transfers to 12 UM credits per semester.

Program Dates
Program dates reflect UAI’s southern hemisphere schedule.

Semester 2: late July to early  December

Santiago and Viña del Mar, Chile
Santiago, the capital of Chile, is located on the Mapocho River.  It is the political, commercial, and financial heart of the nation.  The city was founded in 1541 by Pedro de Valdivia between the hill of Santa Lucia and the Mapocho River; today the city has spread over a broad valley plain and is one of the largest cities in South America.  The snowcapped Andes form a spectacular backdrop to the East.  Buildings from the colonial era remain, but the atmosphere of Santiago is modern.  Spacious parks, plazas, gardens and wide avenues allow for peaceful strolls.  The city is also home to several major sports stadiums, hotspots during the soccer season.
Viña del Mar
Viña del Mar, located just 10 kilometers north of Valparaiso, is one of Chile’s most beautiful beach resort towns.  The short trip to Valparaiso offers a quaint and vibrantly colored port town.
The Chilean Andes provide outdoor adventures galore, with choices including hiking, trekking, climbing, kayaking, horseback riding, and skiing.  Chile offers the best of all worlds, beaches and mountains, active volcanoes, fjords, and glaciers.
