The City
Wellington is a culturally booming, cosmopolitan harbor city. It is the capital city of New Zealand, located on the  southwestern tip of the country’s North Island.  The university’s Kelburn campus is just a few minutes’ walk or cable car ride away from the bustling entertainment, arts, café and social scene of downtown Wellington.  The Te Aro Campus is located near upper Cuba Street– in the midst of the cafés, art galleries, and vintage bookstores of Wellington’s liveliest quarter.  The Pipitea Campus, located on Lambton Quay is in close to the Parliamentary buildings, and other governmental buildings.  Locally known as the Golden Mile, this area is also loaded with retail shopping opportunities.  The wider Wellington region also offers many recreational and sporting activities such as water sports, mountain biking, hill and bush walking, and fishing.  Snow skiing is only a four hour drive away.  The wine-growing district of Martinborough, with its many boutique wineries, can be reached in just over an hour.
